Open House Season

After we (Muslims) all around the globe celebrate the Eidul Fitr, in Malaysia it's time for open house aura. I'm not very sure when this 'open house concept' starting to be part of the malaysian culture. As far as i'm concern, during my childhood there's no such thing as open house, or in Malays we pronouns it as 'rumah terbuka'. It's a concept where everybody are welcome to visit anyone's house along the Syawal month. The open house guest are then will be treat with Malays delicacy(often),as Malays are the majority Muslims in Malaysia. Just name it, from ketupat & rendang, to bauhulu, peneram(telinga keling) etc. The guest are rest assured will go back home with full stomach!
As for my family tradition, we don't accept the open house concept totally. We believe that our house are open for anyone, everyday, not just only in Syawal month.
However, in my opinion, there are positive part of the concept. Not only we can preserves friendship through conducting the open house, this concept also can contribute to our nation peace, by having all citizens greeting each other with nice phrase,visiting friends & relatives, without bounded by religion & race. Anyway, it has became part of our nation culture. We should support it, right??
For me, I just conducted an open house last week. Due to a tight budget, I just invited only my neighbour and couples of friends. The guest were treat with nasi goreng cina, meggi goreng, cendol pulut, fruit salad and orange cordial. I'm feeling very satisfied when the guest visit my open house, especially when they also finished their meal. It's a sign that my food are good enough!! hehehehe......
So, for those who are planning to conduct an open house, just continue with your plan & don't waste anything!!
